WIZKID: Biography and Photos

Wizkid was born as Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun into a polygamous family on 16th July, 1990 in Surelere, a place noted as Lagos residential and commercial area. He is the last of six children his mother birthed.

He had his textiary education at Lead City University. Wizkid is a well-known Nigerian songwriter, recording artist and performer whose musical career when he was at a tender age of 11. He is also known as Lil Prinz, a nickname he earned when he released a collaborative album with Glorious Five in 2001. Glorious Five was a group he formed with some of his church friends. Wizkid is an afrobeat, afropop and reggae artist. He is depicted as an artist whose musical career revolves within the ambit of women, money and materialistic things.

The young talented musician is believed to have a great and amiable relationship with Banky W. Under Empire Mates Entertainment, he signed a deal with Banky W in 2009. In 2010, Wizkid rose to stardom cleverly siphoning the large audience of music lovers to himself with the release of the song titled “Holla at Your Boy”. The song Holla at Your Boy” was a hit track from his debut studio album, “Superstar” that was finally dropped in 2011. Love My Baby, Oluwa Lo Ni, Tease Me/Bad Guys, Don’t Dull, Gidi Girl, Pakurumo were singles that came with the Superstar album. In 2014, Wizkid released his second studio album self-titled “Ayo”. Singles like On Top Your Matter, One Question, Joy, Bombay, Jaiye Jaiye and Show You the Money laced the second album.


Wizkid has featured in many songs, collaborated with a number of artists like Bracket, KCee, Lynxxx, Iyanya, Maleek Berry,Wale, Rowntown, Skales, Wande Coal, M.I and a host of others. According to Wizkid, Naeto C, a fair looking gent of a Nigerian rapper groomed and mentored him when he was 15.  He also got inspired by 2 Face Idibia’s Grass to Grace and Sound Sultan’s Jagbajantis when he was visisting Jezreel’s studio.
Without a beam of doubt, Wizkid’s musical talents have continued to announce him outstandingly. His has gained both local and international recognition courtesy of his musical prowess and achievements. He has earned tremendous of awards like Ghana Music Awards(twice), Channel O Music Video Awards(twice), Nigeria Entertainment Awards(Four times), Bet Award(once), The Headies Award(five times), City People Entertainment Awards(twice), Future Award(once), MOBO Award(once), Dynamix All Youth Awards(twice). Furthermore, he has been nominated four times at the World Music Awards and three times at the MTV Europe Music Awards.  The “Ojuelegba” single he released January 5th 2015, more feathers have been added to Wizkid’s cap as the single won him, Hottest Single of the Year in 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awrds and Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Video of the year in 2016 African Music Magazine Awards.According to Channel O’s and Forbes’s 2013 list of Richest/Bankable African Artists, Wizkid ranked 5th.

Wizkid has a son, Boluwatife Balogun who was born on October 2010 by his babymama, Oluwanishola Ogudugu who was then an undergraduate student. Though, he denied been the father until October, 2013 when he publicized the celebration of the child’s birthday.
