PHYNO: Biography And Photos

Born Azubuike Chibuzo Nelson in 9th of October, 1986 to the family of Mr and Mrs Azubuike in the Southeastern region of Nigeria, Phyno is a renown Nigerian rapper and recording producer and he began his musical career during his secondary school days.
He is Enugu born and bred and a descent of Anambra state. The fair skinned, tall and cutely handsome looking Nigerian artist, Phyno is well famous for rapping in Igbo language. As a matter of fact, Phyno is known as the Ambassador of rap music in Igbo language.

His stage name Phyno is coined from the word “Phenomenal”, a nickname given to him by his high school friend called, Emeka. While growing up, Phyno wanted to become a pilot and also thought to become a medical doctor even though he has an innate talent for producing music especially in Igbo language. Phyno had his secondary school education at Nike Boys Secondary school and MIS. We also went to Ogba lesson centre at Abakpa Nike for his extramural class. After his high school education, Phyno enrolled into the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) to study Public administration.
Phyno’s childhood life was a crazy and exuberant one. His gusto for music increased his quest to learn music instruments like drum and piano. He also formed the habit of making his own rendition of any recording that he came across.  As a Wanna-be-Star, he had his rap song always on his lips. It was obvious how Phyno planned to carve his niche in the entertainment industry. Phyno is good at creating Igbo slangs, rapping them and intertwining them with good beats to make it endearing enough for die-hard music fans.

The Guiness cum Airtel brand ambassador, Phyno began recording his debut studio album, “No Guts No Glory in the year, 2012. It was his album’s lead single titled, Ghost Mode that was released in September, 2012 that channeled huge national attention to him. He had featured his fellow rapper, Olamide in the song and it won the Best Collabo at the 2012 The Headies Awards as well as 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. On 7 December 2012, Ghost Mode’s music video was released. It was shot and directed in Lagos by popular music producer and director, Clarence Peters.
According to Phyno, Mr Raw was his role model. He said that he likes rapping in Igbo language because of his respect for his culture and that he loves being himself. He has produced songs like Oringo, Connect, Yayo, Alobam, Asai, Nnunu, Ezege, O Set to name but a few. He has associated with music figures like Don Jazzy, Flavour, Psquare, Olamide, Yemi Alade, Amarachi, Omawumi, Bracket, Timaya, Illbliss, Chidinma, Mt Raw Nwanne, Tha Suspect, Runtown and a host of others.
