One of Nollywood oldest veteran actresses, Bukky Ajayi is dead. She passed on before the cock crowed on Wednesday, July 6th at her home in Lagos. The movie thespian kicked the bucket after she bagged an Industry Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCA) which took place at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday, the 5th of March.
Bukky Ajayi clocked 82-years old on Monday 5th of February and she was hosted by her children to a private birthday party at her Lagos home.
Ajayi was a graduate of drama at the Institute of Drama, London. After her study, she worked in London for some time before she returned to Nigeria. Following her return, she ventured into a career in broadcasting at the Nigerian Television Authority where she worked as a newscaster, announcer and presenter.
Mama Bukky Ajayi as she is fondly called was among the cast that featured in the then popular TV series, ‘Village Headmaster’. Notwithstanding her octogenarian age, she still went on movie location. Before her demise, Ajayi was perceived as one of the living legends of the Nigerian film industry.
