According to Lere Olayinka, the Special Adviser to the Ekiti State Governor on Public Communications and News Media, a management team from Zenith Bank PLC paid a visit to Mr Ayedele Fayose, the Ekiti state governor over the participation of the bank in the funding of the governorship election of the governor in June 21, 2014. Their visit to the governor came along with a reported denial by the bank that it was not involved in the funding of the election.
The Management team was led by Sola Oladipo, an Executive Director. The Ado-Ekiti branch manager and the two zonal directors were part of the team. When approached by the newsmen, the Executive Director stated that they only came to see the governor. When he was asked whether the bank actually disconnected itself from the claim by the governor that it was involved in the funding of the election, Sola only muttered some words out of earshot. He later said that the bank’s spokesman was not among the team and he could not say anything.
Governor Ayo Fayose while commenting on the development revealed that the bank came to beg him over the issue. He said that they were begging him not to allow the matter go beyond the level it was. He said that he asked them why they went to EFCC to fabricate lies and why they had to lie that the money came from the Office of the National Security Adviser. He also asked them why they linked him with what was not if the money was for him.
