Nigeria’s former Foreign Affairs Minister and Ambassador to Canada, Chief Ojo Maduekwe is dead. Chief Maduekwe fell ill inside the plane while he was returning from United States through Dubai where he attended his son’s graduation ceremony.
He reportedly collapsed at the Abuja Airport and was rushed to the Abuja hospital where he gave up the ghost before the doctors could carry out medical treatment on him. He served as the Minister of Transport under the regime of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. As a Transport Minister, Chief Maduekwe was known for riding bicycle around the town.
Until his death, Chief Maduekwe was the Secretary of former ruling People’s Democratic Party of Nigeria. He hailed from Abia state. He died in the evening of Wednesday, the 29th of June at the age of 71.
