Samson Siasia’s plan to take Efe Ambrose to the Olympics in Rio has been thwarted by Bredan Rodgers, the Celtic Coach. Rodgers has being in the midst of a defensive crisis and cannot bear to lose a defender. Bredan Rodgers is battling with injury problems in central defence as Dedryck Boyata and Croatian Jozo Simunovic are likely to miss the beginning of the Scottish Premiership season.
Nigeria plays Japan in their first fixture on 4th of August which is just two days before Celtic starts their league campaign against Hearts. Though, there is no FIFA regulation persuading clubs to release players for the Rio games but Celtic have informed the 27-year-old Nigerian defender that he is need in his club for the opening weeks of the new campaign.
Efe Ambrose took off to Slovenia with the squad on Monday for a 10-day pre-season camp.
